Thessaloniki Opera presents Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart «DON GIOVANNI». Central stage of the Society for Macedonian Studies 18/9 & 19, 20, 23, 25, 26, 27 /9 2009. Opening time 20.30.
The dynamic come back of Thessaloniki’s Opera to the city’s cultural events is a fact. It opens the season 2009 / 2010 with Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s classic play Don Giovanni. Don Giovanni take place at the Central stage of the Society for Macedonian Studies for 7 unique performances.
Thessaloniki’s Opera cooperates for the first time with the orchestra Opera Symphony “Amadeus” , meanwhile the music direction is comissioned to the notable Greek maestro Nikos Athinaios.
Fotini Baxevani is directing the play. Sotiris Stelios is responsible for the stage props. Lefteris Pavlopoulos is in charge of the lighting while Alexia Theodoraki is the costumes designer. Also, Mary Konstantinidou with “Thessaloniki Mix Choir” is participating.
Performing is undertaken by distinguished Greek and foreign lyric singers.

Amadeus Mozart’s Don Giovanni is one of the first rated plays of all. Don Giovanni is a legendary story about an insatiable seductor, a charmer, a man who vainly seeks for the ideal woman and doesn’t hesitate to encounter the unknown at the most mysterious places until he is been called to confront his visitor made of stone.
Don Giovanni was first performed at 1787 in Prague and is about a unique play which includes strong metaphysical elements. The story takes place in medieval Spain time and it is about an immoral doesn’t hesitate to alias with evil in order to acquire new erotic experiences. Pleasure, as Don Giovanni’s only motive, is the reason for any subversion, seduction, event murder that give to the play unquestionable artistic validity.
Don Giovanni, like all Mozart’s creations for the lyric theatre, is underlined by his unlimited artistic expression. It is a unique combination of realism, human flaw and spirit marked artist’s ever present critical look, which automatically transforms an otherwise simple story into a milestone - play where everything shifts and changes for the shake of the plot. A light and dark look into the everyday life of simple people based on the philosophical aspiration and the unique aesthetics of a great artist.
The music of the particular play is distinguishable of the state of the art redaction, the detailed processing, the inventional orchestration and the revolutionary lyricism of melodies, bringing out a cinematographic aspect.
