Thessaloniki Opera presents this year, the operetta “The Godson” by Theophrastus Sakellaridi. “The Godson” was first presented with huge success on July 18, 1918 besides the fact that was written over a period of 40 days. It is an excellent comical-love affair combination with delightful farce elements and melodic richness, which excited the audience in its own time and still fascinates us to this day. Undoubtably, it is the most popular work of Theophrastus Sakellaridi and one of the best Greek operettas.
No matter if sometimes it crosses our minds that the Greek operetta is a kind of entertainment primarily intended for the public of a bygone era and of a certain age, we should also admit that there is no greek person, regardless of age, to whom the happy operetta songs, do not sound familiar.

December 2009: Magic Flute
Thessaloniki opera presents this year the show "Magic Flute". The classical tale of Mozart directed by Dimitris Georgalas starring young established opera artists and actors. It is a show of intense action and suspense that preserves the elements of the fairytale combined with both music and prose.
The plot of the "Magic Flute" is based on a verse-tale story of previous times with witches, fairies and dragons. The main heroes are two children playing the prince and the princess. The difficulties and obstacles they come upon symbolize the end of childhood.

September 2009: Don Giovanni
Thessaloniki Opera presents Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart «DON GIOVANNI».Central stage of the Society for Macedonian Studies 18/9 & 19, 20, 23, 25, 26, 27 /9 2009. Opening time 20.30.
The dynamic come back of Thessaloniki’s Opera to the city’s cultural events is a fact. It opens the season 2009 / 2010 with Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s classic play Don Giovanni. Don Giovanni take place at the Central stage of the Society for Macedonian Studies for 7 unique performances. Thessaloniki’s Opera cooperates for the first time with the orchestra Opera Symphony “Amadeus” , meanwhile the music direction is comissioned to the notable Greek maestro Nikos Athinaios.
